Service Acknowledgment.

What you are agreeing to when you book a session. This document is read and signed at intake, attached to your case file, and is intended to make the boundaries of the service explicit before the session begins.

This Service Acknowledgment sets out the educational scope, the operational policies, and the legal terms that apply to your use of Scan Explained. Reading and signing it is a required step before a session is delivered.

If anything in this document is unclear, please raise it through the contact page before signing. Concerns raised before signature will be addressed in writing; nothing in this document is intended to be opaque or to substitute for plain-English understanding.

Nature of the service

Scan Explained provides educational sessions designed to help you better understand an existing radiology imaging report and — when image access is available and the selected format includes it — to orient you to the general anatomy described in that report. The session is delivered in a private one-on-one video consultation between you and a radiologist.

No physician-patient relationship

By using this service you acknowledge and agree that no physician-patient or treatment relationship is created between you and the radiologist who provides the session. The radiologist does not become your treating physician and is not responsible for any aspect of your medical diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, or care.

Scope: what this service does not provide

You acknowledge that this service does not provide any of the following:

  • A second opinion on, independent reinterpretation of, or new reading of your imaging study.
  • A diagnosis, prognosis, treatment recommendation, or follow-up recommendation.
  • Urgent, emergency, or time-sensitive medical guidance.
  • Individualized clinical decision-making about your symptoms, condition, or care.

Limits of remote review

You acknowledge that the radiologist provides the session based on the materials you have submitted, without access to your full clinical record and without an in-person examination. Any explanations or orientations given during the session are limited to what can reasonably be understood from those submitted materials and from the discussion during the session.

Provider status and credentials

You acknowledge that, as of the date of this document, the radiologist who provides this service is a senior diagnostic radiology resident in the final year of training at a Boston academic medical center, and is board-eligible following completion of the American Board of Radiology Core Examination. The radiologist will sit for the ABR Certifying Examination after completing residency. The radiologist is, in addition, an incoming subspecialty fellow in body and chest cancer imaging at one of Boston's major academic cancer programs, beginning July 2026.

The radiologist holds applicable state medical licensure and provides this service in an educational, non-treatment capacity. This service is not provided in the radiologist's capacity as a clinical employee, resident, or fellow of any hospital, residency program, fellowship, academic medical center, or affiliated institution.

Recording and session content

Sessions are not recorded by default, and routine full-session transcripts are not created. You may not record, screen-capture, transmit, redistribute, or publish the session content — in whole or in part — without prior written permission from the radiologist. Any unauthorized recording or distribution is a material breach of this acknowledgment.

Post-session summary

After your session, you will receive a brief written educational recap of what was discussed, along with questions you may want to bring to your treating clinician. The recap is educational in nature and does not constitute a medical opinion, diagnosis, treatment recommendation, or interpretation of your imaging study. The recap is not a substitute for clinical care and should not be used in place of advice from your treating clinicians.

Privacy and data handling

Submitted materials are handled in accordance with the Privacy Notice, which includes commitments regarding encrypted storage on Cloudflare R2, separate workflow records on Supabase, automatic deletion of raw uploaded materials within fourteen (14) days of the session, patient-initiated deletion on request, and the prohibition on use of submitted materials for AI model training, demonstrations, marketing, research, or any other purpose outside of running your case absent your explicit written consent.

By signing this acknowledgment, you confirm that you have read, or have had the opportunity to read, the Privacy Notice in full.

Cancellation, refund, and satisfaction

You acknowledge the operational promises set out on the Our Promise page: no charge until your case is personally reviewed and accepted; free rescheduling at any time before your session, without caps or fees; the right to submit a refund request if you cancel — or if the session is otherwise not completed — before the session is finished, with such requests reviewed personally by the radiologist within 3 to 5 business days and good-faith cancellations refunded in full; and a 7-day post-session window during which you may submit, in writing, a request for either a no-charge follow-up walkthrough, a refund, or a combination, with the radiologist's personal review and response within 3 to 5 business days.

You acknowledge that the refund and satisfaction remedies described above are reviewed individually rather than issued automatically, and that the radiologist may decline a refund or follow-up where the circumstances do not warrant one. The radiologist also reserves the right to end the engagement on cases that are being repeatedly rescheduled in a manner that suggests the session is not going to happen.

By signing this acknowledgment, you confirm that you have read, or have had the opportunity to read, those policies in full.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, your sole and exclusive remedy for any dissatisfaction with the service shall be the refund and follow-up remedies set out on the Our Promise page. The radiologist and the legal entity providing this service shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to the service, the session, or the post-session summary.

You acknowledge that the limitations of remote, materials-based educational sessions are inherent to the format you have selected. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain limitations of liability; in those jurisdictions, this section shall apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the radiologist and the legal entity providing this service from and against any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of (a) your unauthorized recording, distribution, or publication of session content, or (b) your reliance on session content in lieu of advice or evaluation by your treating clinicians for any clinical decision.

Governing law and jurisdiction

This acknowledgment shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to this acknowledgment shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

State-licensure scope

You acknowledge that this service is delivered as an educational session and is not the practice of medicine, the rendering of a professional medical opinion, or the establishment of a clinical relationship. You agree to confirm the state in which you are physically located at the time of the session. If you have any question about whether the service is appropriate for use from your jurisdiction, contact the radiologist before booking.

Fit review and right to decline

You acknowledge that every booking request is reviewed by the radiologist before payment is requested, and that the radiologist reserves the right to decline, reschedule, downgrade, or terminate a session if the case does not fit the educational scope of the service or if other operational concerns arise. A declined or terminated case results in either no charge (if pre-payment) or a refund (if post-payment), in line with the Our Promise policies.

Electronic records and electronic signature

You agree that this acknowledgment may be presented, signed, and stored electronically, and that an electronic signature is legally equivalent to a handwritten signature for purposes of this document and any related communications.

Raising concerns or making requests

Concerns about the service, requests under the satisfaction promise, requests for early deletion of submitted materials, and questions about how information is handled should be raised through the contact page. Responses are provided personally by the radiologist within a reasonable timeframe.

What you are signing

By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read and understood the terms of this Service Acknowledgment; that I understand the educational-only nature and the limits of the service described above; that no physician-patient relationship is established by my use of the service; that I will not rely on the session content as a substitute for diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, or urgent or emergency care from my treating clinicians; and that the operational policies referenced in Sections 8 and 9 govern privacy, refunds, and the satisfaction promise.
